An opening has arisen for a Regional Engagement, Attendance and Welfare Officer (EAWO) offering a chance to be a key part of changing the lives of children aged 11 to 16 at a leading Alternative Education School. You will support the schools within the allocated region to promote, secure and sustain positive engagement, welfare, and attendance using specialist interventions with the student and/or their families.  There are also additional administrative responsibilities for a number of Progress Schools within the area.

This will include working closely with the school staff to identify vulnerable students and implementing a bespoke package of support, utilising tools within Progress Schools, such as the SENCO and liaising closely with external agencies and teams around the child.

Specific Duties  

• Provide a specialist service to help the school to raise achievement by improving school attendance and punctuality and to meet our attendance targets
• Promote and foster positive attitudes by students and their families towards education and ensuring that parents are made fully aware of their statutory responsibilities, particularly where there is persistent absenteeism
• Make unsupervised home visits and attend meetings both at school and off site
• Support the Head of School in attendance at statutory meetings
• Ensure compliance and demonstrate excellent record keeping.
• Work with the Head of School to create and maintain a vulnerable student list, ensuring actions ad interventions are in place rapidly
• Support the school with strategies to promote the regular and punctual attendance of all students and assist with the implementation of agreed strategies
• Update school records, analyse attendance data and provide reports to Heads of School and senior leaders
• Meet with school staff, students, and parents/carers to establish the reasons for non-attendance/poor punctuality and agree a plan with appropriate strategies and timescales to tackle the issues
• Make contact with the families in response to allocated referrals through home visits and/or meetings in school
• Be fully aware of and carry out all work in line with Child Protection /Safeguarding Procedures
• Liaise and work with external organisations as required
• Manage your own workload in line with Progress School priorities
• Maintain a good working knowledge of the statutory framework and any policies and procedures relating to school attendance, child protection and special educational needs etc. to be able to offer informed advice to parents, school staff and others
• Liaise with Pastoral Support and advice on all matters relating to attendance and where necessary take a lead role in developing work processes to improve school attendance
• Work on initiatives which raise the awareness of the whole school community on the importance of good attendance.

Requirements before applying to the role:

• English and maths at level 2/GCSE 4 or better
• Responsibility for developing, monitoring, and evaluating interventions to improve engagement.
• Working successfully in partnership with parents and the wider community.
• Safeguarding experience, preferable experience as a safeguarding lead.
